Government Institute of Teacher Education for Woman (GovITE) Palakkad was established in 1923. It is situated at Kumarapuram, Ward No.7 of Palakkad Municipality in Kerala. Govt. ITE Palakkad was started for conducting Elementary Teacher Training Certificate Course (TTC). That day this institution was known as Basic Training School (BTS) Palakkad. Later it renamed GTTI (W) Palakkad. In 2014, as a part of curriculam revision under the direction of National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), the name of the institution changed to Govt. Institute of Teacher Education for Women (GITE (W)) Palakkad and conducting two year (4 semester) Diploma in Education (D.Ed) course with the permission to in take of 33 Teacher Trainees per Annual.

Now it is one of the oldest Government Teacher Training Institute in Palakkad District. Govt. Model Pre-primary school and Govt. Higher Secondary School are working adjoining to the ITE Palakkad. Famous heritage village 'Kalpathy' is very near to the ITE and only three kilometers away from Palakkad town.
